Europe’s largest flea market - Lille Braderie - 1-2 September 2012

posted on 23 July 2012 | posted in Antique Fairs  | ( 0 ) Comments

We plan to be at the Lille Braderie (flea market) on 1-2 September 2012.
(We will post a blog once our entry in confirmed).
lille braderie
More than 2 million visitors from all over Europe flock to Lille for the annual street market over the first weekend in September

The Braderie de Lille is Europe's largest flea market, and a famous event both here in France and abroad. Approx 2 million visitors take to the city streets, where they are entertained by music and various performances that take place from 2pm on Saturday to 11pm on Sunday. The market dates back to medieval times, and today has approx 100km of stalls selling everything you can possibly imagine.

Another important tradition is to make sure you enjoy a dish of "moules frites" (mussels served with French fries). There is a running contest between the town's restaurants to see who can build the highest mountain of empty mussel shells by the end of the weekend!

This is the best place for bargain hunters to be over the first weekend in September, when between 2-3 million visitors fill the streets of Lille for the largest street market in Europe. This event is one of the best known not just in France, but is celebrated in the UK and beyond.
